Hatha yoga 

Think you're not flexible enough?  The only thing you need to be flexible is your mind, the body we can work on.  

 

The real power of yoga is not the development of strength and flexibility of the body, but of becoming a witness to the fluctuations of the mind so that you are in control of the mind, rather than your mind controlling you.

If we can control the body, we can gain control of the breath, by controlling the breath, we can control the mind. 

Kundalini Yoga

Often referred to as the yoga of transformation and awareness, this is a powerful practice which is accessible to all - if you can breathe and move you will benefit.  It works quickly in transforming stuck energy and shifting old patterns.  It is traditional to do a practice, whether that be a kryia or meditation, for 40 days, if you miss a day, you start again at day 1 - it certainly focusses the mind however it is not essential to do a daily practice as you will benefit from each session.  If you attend the workshops, I can provide the practices for anyone who wishes to do a 40 day practice by e-mail afterwards together with the playlist.  In Kundalini Yoga, music plays a large part  as it can keep us going through any challenging moments.  

 

 

I have been teaching Hatha Yoga since 2000 and Kundalini Yoga since 2010. I strongly believe the true power of yoga is not in performing asana, but in being present in the body and in observing the fluctuations of the mind and how yoga affects your mental state and energy levels.

I was first introduced to yoga as a child when I would join my mother in her bedroom to practice with the aid of Richard Hittleman's book (Yoga 28 day exercise plan) Sadly I was often sent away to allow my mother to practice in peace. As I grew older life got in the way but I returned to yoga at the age of 23, after being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, a condition my mother had also suffered and had successfully used her yoga practice to manage the pain and discomfort.

I am a fully qualified BWY (British Wheel of Yoga) tutor and teacher trainer. I also have additional training in Yoga Philosophy, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra and Yoga for Mental Health.  I draw on my many years of experience and slightly wicked sense of humour to create fun and inclusive classes and workshops.

I first experienced Kundalini Yoga in 2005 during a BWY weekend yoga festival  and I was completely blown away by the shift in energy and release after just a few sessions. I completed my level one training in Kundalini Yoga in 2009 and I am currently completing all level 2 modules.  

In addition to the BWY training I have trained with Judith Lassiter in Restorative Yoga (Relax and Renew) which brings deep healing with the use of bolsters and props to give the body space to open and release in a physically supported environment.

I am qualified in a number of therapies including shamanic healing (for further information please go to http://shiningmoonhealing.wixsite.com/arts and will always continue to see myself as a lifelong student of yoga.

Please note that I use a third party (Mail Chimp) for our marketing purposes however your information will not be shared with any other third party outside my arrangement with Mail Chimp.  You will have the option to unsubscribe at any time you no longer wish to receive marketing (class details, workshops, newsletters) from me.

In addition, on attending classes or workshops you will be required to complete a health questionnaire.  This information is not shared with a third party and is intended to ensure that support or modifications can be provided to enable you to get the most out of your session with me.

Data will be retained for a period as permitted by law, and for insurance purposes in the case of health questionnaires.  Personal details held for marketing purposes will be removed should services be unsubscribed.

Your rights:

  1. Right to access – you have the right to request copies of the information I hold about you at any time or that I modify, update or delete information held.  There is no charge for data requested unless the request is ‘manifestly unfounded or excessive’.

  2. Right to ease – if you request that data is deleted or removed from our systems this will be actioned (please note above regarding data retained as per law and for insurance purposes above)

  3. Right to correct – if data held is inaccurate or incomplete you can request that it is corrected.

  4. Right to portability – you can request that your data is moved, copied or transferred
